So much wasted time trying to make it work, depressing as can be, frustrating…it makes a buzzing noise in backround (that is when it works)

it makes me sick, ive wasted so much money on it n accesorys
dont make same mistake i did, i dunno who these happy customers are but if they like buzzing noises in the backround whatever

I bought this microphone over a year ago to replace a stereo Sony item which I had previously used for recording. At the time I was upgrading my PC to a dual core spec model which was fraught with problems owing to the fact my new PC did not like my chosen software package (Magix Studio 12) and I could not get the microphone to work probably owing to the fact the OS was Vista. After a year spent dealing with the retailer of the PC I eventually sold it and upgraded my existing desktop PC (Windows XP) to be able to accomodate the large sample sizes. The microphone now works (XP recognises it and lets you use it as a recording device which means Magix recognises it) but I have discovered that the left channel records at around 1/5th the volume of the right and the sound is decidedly “harsh” If you buy this check this out straight away as I am now out of warranty and left with a pretty useless piece of kit. Mono recording only and no real sound quality.

I picked the Samson after much trawling through the web. Buy it with confidence but first some advice on “problems” encountered with the mike. The most popular one is “sent it back doesn’t work!
RULE ONE: DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY SOFTWARE FOR THE SAMSON!!!!!!
1.You have to make sure the audio settings are correct. On my windows XP the default setting for microphone volume turned out to be zero on the volume slider – so it clearly was not plug and play- however a simple adjustment to the slider makes it work. (NOTE YOU CAN ADJUST THE SENSITIVITY OF THE MIKE BY ALTERING THE SETTING ON THE VOLUME SLIDER- I found a setting of 3/4 suited my needs)
2. There seems to be some reported problems if you download software to adjust the volume more conveniently than going back into control panel so i did not download the software- THERE IS NO NEED FOR EXTRA SOFTWARE TO ADJUST THE VOLUME OF THE MIKE!!!!!!!
Here is the link from Samson (EXCELLENT) that takes you right through the stages of setting up the mike (For Windows XP – I believe VISTA is easier). Once you’ve gone thru it it becomes second nature to alter the volume settings in control panel- it is no big deal.

3. Finally the quality – it is simply superb but because it is a condenser mike (RECORDING STUDIO QUALITY) it is susceptible to pops from “p” and “B” sounds if you are close to the mike. This can easier be eliminated with a nylon pop sock stretched over a wire coat hanger (Or waste £20 on one on the net). Also unlike other types of mike (dynamic) you can’t throw it around.
4. IT DOES COME WITH A TABLE TOP STAND. But unscrew the little silvery threaded insert from the stand to fix it to the TRIPOD.(The insert is an adapter to attach the mike to an upright stand.)
So buy with confidence you won’t find a better product at this price.

This is the best microphone i have ever bought for someone and they always use it and it has really good quality for playback unlike the other microphones they had.
Worth the money, you will not regret.
Also comes with a mini tripod stand.
Definete buy!

For it’s simplicity of use this earns 4 stars easy. The sound quality and level setting is ok and with a bit of a tweak is easily rates up to good. If I were to sound booth properly when do quick voice overs I might even be giving this 5 but not had chance to do that.
Simple, quick and easy to use. Good results. Good value for money. Very useful.
